General Representative of Russian Railways JSC in Turkmenistan Ivan Tonkikh, on the sidelines of the OSJD Conference meeting in Ashgabat, spoke about expectations from the development of the North-South railway corridor. The MIC reports this.

In particular, I. Tonkikh noted that with the active development of the transport and logistics sector between Russia and Turkmenistan, special attention is paid to the North-South corridor. The Russian side is interested in this project.

“The task of our general representative office is to attract the attention of the shipper, in particular, Russian companies. Access to the Indian Ocean in transit through Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran is all on the agenda today,” noted the general representative of Russian Railways.

Turkmenistan occupies a unique location in Central Asia, through which international trade routes pass, he emphasized.

“We live in the Renaissance and are witnessing huge transit potential from East to West and the revival of the Great Silk Road. I am fully confident in the potential of the North-South project. You and I will witness a new transport corridor that will open up completely new opportunities,” concluded Ivan Tonkikh.

At the moment, Russian Railways plans to complete the procedure for registering a Representative Office in Turkmenistan, the source notes.
