As part of the plenary session of the International Scientific Conference “Ancient Culture of Anau,” the memoirs of Lisa Pumpelli, the great-granddaughter of the legendary American explorer Raphael Pumpelli, thanks to whom the culture of Anau gained worldwide fame and forever entered into scientific terminology, were heard.

The discoveries made during the archaeological excavations he conducted in 1904 were stunning for that time. Having determined the development of archeology for decades to come, they are still of great importance for the study of human history.

As noted in the presentation, the Anau mounds consist of several layers of settlements, each of which contains unique features of its era.

The remains of wheat and barley cereals discovered by Raphael Pampelli became a sensation, confirming that ak bugday (white wheat) was selected precisely in Anau.

As is known, this discovery led to the conclusion that Central Asia is one of the first regions on earth where cultivated varieties of cereals were used. Thus, the bearers of the ancient settled agricultural culture of Anau, the ancestors of the Turkmen people, became one of the first in human history to cultivate wheat and bake bread from white flour.

At the end of her speech, Lisa Pumpelli addressed words of gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, as well as all Turkmen people for their reverent attitude towards their history and the memory of Rafael Pampelli and other outstanding scientists who have made an invaluable contribution to the study of the rich cultural heritage of Turkmenistan people, reports TDH.
