Business digest: the main economic news of Turkmenistan from March 19 to 26

Fuel and Energy Complex

The Turkish company Çalık Enerji received a financial guarantee from the German bank Commerzbank and the Swiss Export Credit Agency (ECA) in the amount of 586 million USD for the construction of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1574 MW in the city of Turkmenbashy in the Balkan region of Turkmenistan.

Industry

A business company Türkmen gips will be created in Turkmenistan with the participation of the Koytendag Quarry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan and ES Ak bulut. The company plans to produce 250 thousand tons of dry construction mixtures and 20 million square meters of plasterboard products per year, which will create new jobs.

Turkmenistan and the European Union strengthen economic cooperation

Last week, a delegation of Turkmenistan led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov visited Brussels and Italy. During negotiations with colleagues, documents were signed and plans to expand economic cooperation were outlined.

In particular, Turkmenistan and the EU signed the Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. The ports of Turkmenbashy and Naples signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

Within the framework of the visit, a round table “Turkmenistan and the EU: towards a new economic partnership” was held. Participants noted the significant potential for increasing economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications Mammethan Chakyev held bilateral meetings with representatives of European business. These included executives from companies such as Cargolux, Exagon Global BV, Royal IHC and DEME.

Transport and logistics

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the appointment of Batyr Annayev to the position of head of the Türkmendeňizderýaýollary Agency. He replaced Annadurdy Kosayev in this post, who was relieved of his post due to a transfer to another job.

Airbus offered remote monitoring and photography services from space to Turkmenistan. During the meeting with the leadership of the “Turkmensvyaz” Agency, new avionics and the capabilities of the Airbus space service were also discussed.

A regional training center of the World Customs Organization will be opened in Turkmenistan. It will not only improve the qualifications of national personnel, but will also become a significant contribution to the development of customs in the region.

The Turkmen Logistics Association signed a memorandum with the Russian Afanasy Nikitin Association. The purpose of the document is to assist each other in the development of freight forwarding and transport logistics at the bilateral and regional levels.

A new modern administrative building of the national postal company “Turkmenpost” will be built in Ashgabat. According to the project documentation, the new facility will include five floors with technical and server rooms.

Private sector development

A new meat processing enterprise of the economic society Täze aý was opened in the Mary velayat of Turkmenistan. Its production capacity allows processing up to 500 heads of cattle and 1000 heads of small livestock in one technological cycle.

Within the framework of the forum in honor of the 16th anniversary of the UIET, a number of Turkmen companies signed documents on cooperation with foreign colleagues. In particular, the contracts were concluded by ES Bagdan and the Turkish company Bulutlar Kuruyemiş Tarim, the Turkmen company Täç hil and the Turkish Ostan Grup Diş Tijaret A.S. and etc.

The international cooperation

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan was admitted to the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Turkic-Speaking Countries as a full member. The Union was created in 2019 and is an effective platform for the further development of trade and economic cooperation between the Turkic states.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmed Gurbanov and the Ambassador of Armenia to Turkmenistan Ruben Kharazyan discussed the organization of mutual visits of business delegations of the two countries.

This year, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange plans to increase trade turnover with Turkmenistan by realizing the export potential of the exchange platform. We are talking mainly about lumber, dairy products and sugar.
