36 masters of the pen came together to create a unique novel, “Fourteen Days,” which immerses the reader in the atmosphere of New York quarantine at the beginning of 2020. Mail.ru reports this.

Each of the authors, which includes such stars as Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid's Tale), John Grisham (The Firm) and Celeste Ng (Little Fires Everywhere), told the story of one of the characters living in the same apartment building. The names of the authors are listed on the cover, but the secret of the distribution of the short stories remains unsolved until the end of the book.

The plot of “Fourteen Days” begins to develop on March 31, 2020. New York is constrained by quarantine restrictions. Previously unfamiliar residents of a Lower East Side building become family to each other for two weeks. Nightly meetings on the roof, like those in Boccaccio's Decameron, give them the opportunity to share stories, comfort and support each other.

The idea of the project belongs to Douglas Preston, a famous master of thrillers. It was he who created the plot frame into which the stories of the heroes are woven.

“Storytelling is a central part of every human culture on Earth. It's in our genes. We tell each other stories to make sense of tragedy, war, violence, pandemic,” Preston says.
