According to the Turkish Institute of Statistics (Türkstat), in 2023, the landmark year of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, the country's population grew by 92 824 people compared to the previous year to reach 85 372 377 people. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the Türkiye newspaper.

But among these millions there are also very tiny settlements. Three villages in Turkey turned out to be so sparsely populated that only one person lives in each of them.

“Kayalıbag in the central region of Bitlis, Chattepe in the Kurtalan district of Siirt and Ağaçyurdu in the Güçlukonak district of Şırnak were marked as places with the smallest number of inhabitants - 1 person each”, - the publication writes.

There are other villages where the number of inhabitants is not much larger:

  • Kalfalar (Kutahya) - 2 people
  • Cevizdüzü (Şırnak) - 3 people
  • Magarakoy (Idil), Akimli (Bingol), Kazabate (Canakkale), Dilekli (Hakkari), Evyapan (Kars), Kovanagzi (Siirt) - 4 people each.
