A 285-year-old lemon was sold at auction in England. The buyer paid 1780 USD for it. This was reported by MIR 24 with reference to UPI.

This historic fruit was discovered in a 19th-century cabinet brought to auction. A specialist, taking a photo for the catalog, noticed a lemon carefully stored in one of the boxes. There was an inscription on it, dated November 4, 1739, and addressed to a certain Miss Baxter.

Realizing the value of the find, the lemon was put up for auction.

The fate of the lemon after the auction remains a mystery. The new owner did not reveal his plans.

The cabinet was sold for only 40 USD.
