Egypt has begun a three-year reconstruction of the Pyramid of Menkaure, the most pandemic and the last of the three pyramids at Giza. The project to restore the ancient monument has caused an uproar among critics, including experts who called it “absurd.” Mail.ru reports this.

The Pyramid of Menkaure was originally lined with granite, but over time, part of the coating crumbled. The purpose of the reconstruction is to restore the morning cladding and return the pyramid to its original appearance.

However, many believe that this interference in a historical monument is unacceptable. Egyptologist Monica Hanna called the reconstruction "impossible" and ordered archeology to "mobilize immediately."

“The only thing missing is adding tiles to the pyramid. All provide for the implementation of recommendations and prohibit such interference,” she wrote.

Many social media users were also concerned about the backlash against the redevelopment. They compare it to straightening the Leaning Tower of Pisa or covering a pyramid with wallpaper.
