Six-legged dog Ariel, who was found abandoned in a UK supermarket car park in the autumn, has successfully undergone surgery to remove two extra limbs. Her four normal paws remained intact. This was reported by MIR 24 with reference to the BBC.
The 11-week-old spaniel was found in a deplorable state in a store parking lot. His story was told in the media and many people came forward to help the puppy. Ariel got her nickname because of her fused hind legs that resemble fins.
Well-wishers from around the world raised nearly 15 000 pounds to help pay for Ariel's surgery. Surgeon Aaron Latchman was able to save all four of the puppy's legs. After the operation, their performance was not affected.
Due to having two hip joints on one side, the dog's pelvis has not formed properly. As a result, her normal rear right leg had virtually no muscle tone, so there was a possibility that that too would have to be removed.
“She's doing well, she's bounced back, she's a happy little dog and we hope she continues to have an amazing little life,” Latchman said.
After the clinic, Ariel will go to a temporary foster home in west Wales. She will have several weeks of physical therapy and recovery. Later, volunteers will begin searching for a permanent home for her.
