The Government of Kazakhstan has abolished the mandatory tourist tax for foreigners, which was in effect since January 1, 2022. Corresponding changes were made to the rules for paying the tourist tax for foreigners by order of the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan dated December 27, 2023. The changes take effect on January 9, 2024. MIR 24 reports this.
Bed tax was charged to foreigners for each day of stay at the hotel. In different regions of the country, tax rates varied from 1% to 5% of the cost of hotel rooms.
However, in October 2023, the Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Erkinbaev, announced the suspension of the contribution. According to him, bed tax “creates certain inconveniences for both domestic business and incoming foreign tourists.”
