On December 19, 2023, the UN General Assembly at the 49th plenary meeting of the 78th session unanimously approved the resolution: “Strengthening links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals". The document was developed at the initiative of Turkmenistan and supported by 47 UN member states, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
The resolution calls on countries to promote the smooth functioning of transport systems, which is essential for sustainable development.
It should be noted that in September this year, at a plenary meeting of the General Assembly, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov identified transport as one of the priority areas in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. As is known, Turkmenistan initiated the creation of effective international platforms for dialogue in this important area.
In 2016, the First UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport was successfully held in Ashgabat, and in the summer of 2023, the International Meeting of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries was held.
