The film was not a big success in China, grossing only 3.2 USD million in its opening weekend. The reason for this was probably the cold season in the country.
The prequel to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" will tell the story of Willy Wonka's youth. The film was directed by Paul King, known for The Adventures of Paddington. Supporting cast: Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key and others.
Critics also praised Wonka. The film has a score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 68 out of 100 on Metacritic.
