Energy cooperation in the Caspian Sea is the most important and fundamental issue, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov said at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian countries in Moscow, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
According to the head of the Turkmen delegation, the key aspect here is the implementation of Article 14 of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which clearly formulates the rights of the parties to lay cables and pipelines along the bottom of the reservoir.
Meredov emphasized that Turkmenistan proceeds from the fact that the construction of underwater infrastructure in the Caspian Sea meets the economic needs of all five coastal states.
According to him, this also serves as an important condition for ensuring energy security and sustainability in Eurasia based on equal consideration of the interests and benefits of energy producers, consumers and transit countries.
