In New York, the city's main Christmas tree was lit at Rockefeller Center. Hundreds of people gathered in the square to see this event, writes TASS.

The spruce, 24 meters tall and weighing 12 tons, was shipped from Vestal, New York. To decorate it, they used a garland about 8 km long, consisting of more than 50 thousand multi-colored light bulbs. At the top of the spruce there is a crystal star weighing more than 400 kg, decorated with 3 million Swarovski crystals.

Before the tree lights were switched on, there was a concert featuring famous musical artists including Cher, Barry Manilow, Chloe Bailey, Keke Palmer, Katharine McPhee and Manuel Turizo.

The first Christmas tree was erected at Rockefeller Center in 1931. Since then, this event has become an annual tradition. The switching on of the garlands has been carried out regularly since 1933, and since 1951 this ceremony has been broadcast on television.
