A delegate from Turkmenistan took part in an event dedicated to the celebration of World Sustainable Transport Day, which took place on November 24 at the UN Office in Geneva. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports this.
Deputy General Director of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan B. Annaev, speaking at the forum, spoke about Turkmenistan’s domestic and foreign policy in the field of transport. In particular, he noted the consistent improvement and modernization of infrastructure for the effective integration of the country into the global transport system, the introduction of modern and environmentally friendly modes of transport into everyday life. Separately, he outlined aspects of the Program for the Development of Transport Diplomacy being implemented in the country for the period 2022-2025.
The event was attended by leaders and representatives of various international organizations, including UNECE, UNCTAD, International Road Transport Union (IRU), International Organization of Automobile Manufacturers (IOPA), International Trade Centre, WHO, European Cyclist Federation, International Union of Railways , International Public Transport Association, as well as representatives of individual countries.
World Sustainable Transport Day is being celebrated for the first time. The date of the holiday - November 26 - was established on the basis of a UN resolution of May 16, 2023, put forward at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
