The Authorized Representative for Human Rights in Turkmenistan - Ombudsman Yazdursun Gurbannazarova held a number of meetings with representatives of international partners to discuss cooperation in the field of human rights protection, reports the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
During the meeting with the regional representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia, Matilda Bogner, it was noted that with the support of this structure, activities were carried out to strengthen the capacity of the Ombudsman’s office and increase public awareness of human rights. The parties emphasized the importance of further cooperation.
During a meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Matteo Mecacci, the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan presented information on democratic reforms in the country and the role of her office as an independent institution. The positive nature of interaction with the OSCE was noted.
The results of cooperation and development prospects were also discussed during the meeting of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan with the head of the regional project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “Safe Migration in Central Asia” Eleanor Valentine. During the meeting, the importance of the ongoing reforms in the country to protect human rights and the activities of the Ombudsman’s Office as an independent institution for their promotion was emphasized.
