Belgium is tightening its anti-smoking measures. Starting from 2025, the sale of cigarettes will be prohibited in supermarkets larger than 400 square meters. This decision is part of the Belgian government's plan to reduce the smoking rate in the country to 5% by 2040, reports euro-pulse.ru.

In addition, the Belgian government has expanded the list of places where smoking is prohibited. Now these include sports fields, entrances to libraries and hospitals. Previously, smoking was prohibited in hospitals, libraries and schools, in cafes and restaurants, airports and train stations, parks and zoos, and at public transport stops. It is also prohibited to smoke in a car if a child is driving there.

The fine for violating the smoking ban is 130 euros.
