The heads of the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Romania signed an Action Plan for 2024-2025

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu on the sidelines of the Central Asia-EU ministerial meeting. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

At the beginning of the negotiations, Odobescu emphasized the strategic importance of the Central Asian region for Romania. It was noted that the country plays a key role in strengthening cooperation between the region and the European Union. Turkmenistan is named one of Romania’s priority partners in this region.

Considering the political and diplomatic aspects of interaction, Meredov paid attention to the history of bilateral relations. The importance of the first visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Romania in 2008, which laid a solid foundation for further cooperation, was emphasized.

The parties recognized the importance of mutual support in the international arena. In particular, the Turkmen delegation expressed gratitude to Romania for its assistance in the adoption of resolutions of the UN General Assembly initiated by Turkmenistan.

In the field of trade and economic cooperation, special attention was paid to promising joint projects, including transport and energy. In this context, we noted the fruitful cooperation within the Working Group on Energy. The importance of the “Caspian Sea – Black Sea” transport corridor was emphasized.

The parties confirmed their interest in developing cooperation in the field of digitalization.

During the negotiations, issues of humanitarian partnership were discussed. Particular attention was paid to educational cooperation and exchange programs. Today, about 300 Turkmen students are studying at universities in Romania. The commitment to partnership in this area is confirmed by the Cooperation Program between the ministries of education of the two countries. In addition, the Turkmen side noted the importance of short-term diplomatic training for young diplomats at the “Nicolae Titulescu” University.

Concluding the meeting, the foreign ministers signed the Action Plan for 2024-2025. This document is an expression of common aspirations to further deepen interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries, the statement says.
