On September 2, the Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle launched into space at 11:50 local time on a research mission to the Sun, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported, citing information from the Indian Space Research Organization.

The launch took place from the space center of the Satish Dhawan Space Center on the island of Sriharikota. On board the launch vehicle is the Aditya-L research observatory.

After entering the near-Earth orbit, the rocket with the observatory on board will head towards the Lagrange point L1. The Lagrange point is a place in outer space where the attraction of two objects (in this case, the Earth and the Sun) is mutually balanced. The

Lagrange point L1 is located approximately 1.5 million kilometers from the Earth.

The tasks of Aditya-L will include the study of the activity of the Sun, its corona, chromosphere and photosphere in real time using electromagnetic field, particle and magnetic field detectors.
