In the Koytendag etrap of Turkmenistan, there is the Hojagaynar spring, which is inhabited by mollusks, earthworms and other invertebrates that lived millions of years ago. Scientists consider this source a real living museum, writes Jeyhun.news.

The source originates on the western side of Koytendag. Its water, saturated with hydrogen sulfide, has healing properties. It is salty and has a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.

Linguist Soltansha Atanyazov, in his book Explanatory Dictionary of Geographical Names of Turkmenistan, explains, “Hojagaynar is a sulfur spring (it is also called Gaynarbaba), the word “hodja” in the name of the source means “holy”. It is often found in the names of holy places, as well as salt and sulfur springs. The word "gaynar" means "boiling".
