In Turkmenistan, there is a demand for cards of the Russian payment system "Mir". Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin spoke about this in an interview with TASS.
According to him, Russian bank cards, including the Mir payment system, may be necessary for Turkmen students who study at Russian universities, tourists and businessmen who often travel to Russia.
Volynkin also said that the financial institutions of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation are discussing the possibility of increasing settlements in national currencies. In 2022, a quarter of bilateral trade transactions, excluding gas payments, took place in rubles.
