Turkmenistan intends to submit two initiatives related to ecology and water resources at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (GA) in September. This is stated in the article of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, published on the pages of the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".
One of the initiatives concerns the creation of the "Caspian Environment Initiative", which should become an international platform for discussing and solving problems related to the protection of the Caspian environment, the conservation of its bioresources and the elimination of environmental threats.
Another initiative provides for the creation of a UN regional council on water use in the countries of Central Asia with a center in Ashgabat. The purpose of this council will be to maintain peace, security and good neighborliness in Central Asia, as well as to establish a mechanism for the use of water in the transboundary rivers of the region.
