As of December 17, 2022, the total population of Turkmenistan was 7,057,841 people. Of these, 22.9 percent are in the Mary velayat, 22 percent in the Dashoguz velayat, 20.5 percent in the Lebap velayat, 14.6 percent in the city of Ashgabat, 12.5 percent in the Ahal velayat, and 7.5 percent in the Balkan velayat.
About 50 percent of the population are men, more than 50 percent are women, 47.1 percent are urban residents, and 52.9 percent live in villages.
These are the results of the complete population and housing census conducted in December 2022, which were announced today at the expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan by the Chairman of the State Committee on Statistics Dovletgeldi Amanmuhammedov, the information program Watan of the Turkmen television reported.
As reported, this event was organized in accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan dated October 25, 2017 in all regions of the Motherland using digital technologies.
Methodological guidelines for the preparation and conduct of the census were developed in accordance with international standards and were highly appreciated by experts from the UN Population Fund.
According to the census, housing construction is being carried out at a high pace in all settlements of Turkmenistan. The number of residential buildings is 1005671, which is 12.4 percent higher compared to the 2012 census, residential buildings are 1344,268, which is 13.6 percent more, their total area is 165167523 square meters, which is 24.5 percent more.
In general, the obtained statistical information is intended to serve as a large information base in the preparation of programs for the socio-economic development of the country.
