iPhone and other smartphones that use non-removable built-in batteries will be required to completely switch to removable batteries by 2027, writes Ferra.ru.
The corresponding law was approved by the European Council. The innovation is mandatory only for European smartphone companies, but Apple, Samsung and Google intend to apply this standard to other regions of the world.
Replacing the built-in with removable batteries will permit to organize the process of recycling used batteries and reduce the amount of hazardous waste in the production of electronics, in addition, it will be much easier for users to replace the used battery in their smartphone on their own.
