The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO spoke at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Cultural Self-Expressions

Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCO Maksat Charyev took part in the 9th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, which was held in Paris on Tuesday. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Since the last session, three new States Parties have acceded to the Convention: Capo Verde, Pakistan and Turkmenistan (Turkmenistan joined the Convention in July 2021).

In his speech, M. Charyev emphasized the efforts of Turkmenistan to preserve traditional arts, crafts, music and dances, as well as to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. It was noted that cultural centers and museums have been created in Turkmenistan, cultural festivals are held, artistic exchanges are supported, contributing to a deeper understanding of various cultural traditions.

The ambassador also expressed the readiness of Turkmenistan to actively participate in the work to achieve the goals and objectives of the Convention and declared his determination to continue cooperation with UNESCO and all participating countries.

The session will last until June 8. Representatives of the 152 States Parties to the Convention and the European Union review the implementation of the Convention and the main challenges facing the cultural and creative sectors in the post-COVID-19 context. In particular, discussions are underway on how to expand cultural expressions in the digital environment, secure preferential treatment measures for cultural goods and services, and strengthen the status of artists and cultural professionals.
