Today, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, at the invitation of the Turkish side, took part in the inauguration ceremony of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the newly elected President of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkmen television news program Watan reported.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the country's parliament building in Ankara, during which Erdogan took the oath, and the interim chairman of the Turkish parliament, Devlet Bahceli, handed over to the head of state a document indicating victory in the elections.

In addition to the President of Turkmenistan, the solemn event was attended by representatives of over 90 delegations, including more than 40 heads of foreign states, governments and parliaments, as well as international organizations.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially became President of Turkey for the third time. He will remain in office until 2028.

Erdogan has been in power for two decades - he took over as President in 2014, and before that, since 2003, he was Prime Minister. In 2017, after the constitutional reform, Erdogan eliminated the post of prime minister and took full power into his own hands.

According to the Constitution, the President of Turkey cannot serve for more than two terms. However, the Turkish Ministry of Justice has "nullified" Erdogan's second term, saying it does not count after the country switched from a parliamentary to a presidential form of government in 2018.

The first round of the presidential elections in Turkey, in which none of the three candidates received more than half of the votes, took place on May 14. In the second round, held on May 28, Erdogan won with 52.18% of the vote.
