On May 29, a solemn reception was held in Ashgabat in honor of the national holiday - Independence Day and the 105th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The event was attended by representatives of the Turkmen government, ministries and departments, public organizations, ambassadors of foreign states and heads of representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, and the media.

Opening the reception, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan Gasan Zeynalov noted that in recent years, Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations have reached the level of strategic partnership.

The diplomat noted that over the past 11 months, the two countries have held five mutual visits at the level of heads of state and parliaments, numerous visits at the level of government members, as well as a regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission. In conclusion, the Azerbaijani ambassador also noted that the trade turnover between the two countries in 2022 increased five times compared to the previous year.

Batyr Atdaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, delivered a congratulatory speech from the Turkmen side. On behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, he congratulated the people of Azerbaijan on Independence Day, noting that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are united by historical friendly and good neighborly relations.

According to Atdaev, both countries have the potential of natural resources, including huge hydrocarbon reserves, which creates ample opportunities for fruitful relations in strategically important areas. In addition, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have great opportunities in such areas as energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, and the textile industry. The most important part of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations are cultural and humanitarian ties.

“Our peoples have the right to be proud of their glorious and rich past, preserving their national culture, traditions, language, unique culture and collective spiritual values of generations,” Batyr Atdaev emphasized.
