The European Union plans to abandon the practice of recycling unsold clothing, writes the Financial Times.

Usually, manufacturers and retail chains simply throw away such clothes. At the same time, this method of recycling textiles increases greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, after the final adoption of the law, such things will be completely recycled.

Germany, the Netherlands and France supported the ban on throwing away textiles, in contrast to Sweden, where Europe's largest retail chain H&M is located.

After the adoption of the law on the recycling of unsold clothes, manufacturers will have to think in advance about how to dispose of them in case the clothes are not sold out completely.

Every year, in Europe alone, up to 6 million tons of textiles are thrown into landfills, and only a quarter of the total is sent for recycling.
