On April 29, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the city of Bishkek, celebrates its 145th anniversary. In honor of the holiday, the city authorities organized numerous cultural events, flash mobs and festivals, exhibitions, sports competitions and festivities, and a fireworks display is planned for the evening on “Ala-Too” Square.

Mayor of Bishkek Albek Ibraimov also addressed the residents of the city with congratulations.

In 1825, a fortress called Pishpek appeared on the ruins of the ancient city. In those days, these territories were part of the Kokand Khanate, but from the middle of the XIX century they became part of the Russian Empire.

Pishpek received the city status on April 29, 1878, since then this date has been celebrated as the birthday of the city.

For almost the entire XX century, Pishpek, which became the capital of the Kirghiz SSR, was called Frunze, and in 1991 it was renamed Bishkek.

At present time, Bishkek is the capital of one of the Central Asian states, the largest city in the country, an important economic transport, industrial and cultural center.
