On April 11, the first Turkish observation satellite IMECE will be launched, reports “Kommersant”. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the upcoming launch on his Telegram channel:

“Our first domestically produced IMECE observation satellite with high-resolution imagery capability will be launched into its orbit on April 11. We will continue to advance in the global space race with our human resources, capabilities and technology”.

The IMECE satellite, developed by Tubitak Uzay Space Technology Research Institute, is designed to observe the Earth's surface from a height of 680 kilometers. The satellite will take high-resolution images to monitor situations with natural disasters, climate change, as well as for the needs of the defense department. The satellite is expected to serve five years.
