Not far from Rotterdam, on the beach of Hoek van Holland, just 40 meters from the North Sea, a metro station has opened, according to RailTech.com.
The uniqueness of the station is in its close proximity to the seashore. During the design and construction, the climatic features of the location were taken into account and protective measures were created from sand, salt and wind.
“All the inconvenience for passengers is behind us, let summer come!” commented a representative of the municipality.

On the second and third places in the world in proximity to the beach are the New York metro stations Ocean Pkwy - 170 meters to the coast and Stillwell Ave - 500 meters.
