At the University of Tel Aviv, scientists were able to record the sounds that tomatoes make, according to the Israeli edition of Ynet.

Tomatoes make sounds reminiscent of the measured crackling when frying popcorn, but they are inaccessible to the human ear, as they are in the ultrasonic range. Moreover, the sounds made by tomatoes depend on their condition. Tomatoes that are "feeling good" are more likely to be silent, raising their voice about once every hour. When dried out, vegetables begin to strongly signal this problem, crackling almost without interruption, but as they dry out, the sounds gradually fade away.

Scientists have not yet figured out who the tomatoes are addressing with these signals - to their own kind or to insects and animals. Therefore, it is difficult to say for sure that this is some form of speech, and not ordinary physiological sounds.
