On February 27, after a week of Maslenitsa festivities, the Orthodox around the world began Great Lent, which will last exactly 7 weeks - until April 15.

Lent is the strictest and longest among Christian fasts. At this time, any food from animal products is prohibited (except for honey and, on some days, fish), that is, the menu becomes completely vegan. But restrictions on food are not the end in itself of fasting - this is a time of prayers, good deeds and purification of the soul from sinful thoughts.

Therefore, if the state of health does not permit you to completely abandon meat or milk for all seven weeks, you should not adhere to such strict restrictions. The main thing is to pay attention to your spiritual thoughts.

This year, Great Lent will end on April 16 with Easter.
