The head of the promotion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, spoke about a possible rematch between Russian Islam Makhachev and Australian Alexander Volkanovski.
“What could be better when the whole world is arguing and discussing this super fight? But now Yair Rodriguez is the interim champion and he'll be next to fight Volkanovski. Let's see who Islam fights. After both fighters have one more fight, we will organize a rematch for them”, - White said at the UFC Vegas 70 press conference.
Islam Makhachev, a native of Makhachkala, is 31 years old. The Russian became the UFC champion in October 2022, stopping the representative of Brazil Charles Oliveira in the second round. In total, the Russian fighter has 13 wins and one loss in the UFC. In total, he spent 25 fights in mixed martial arts, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat.
On February 12, Makhachev defended his championship title for the first time, defeating Australian Alexander Volkanovski. Let us remind that the duel of the fighters was held on February 12 at the UFC 284 tournament and ended with the victory of Makhachev by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47 and 49-46).
