The logistics center of Turkmenistan, which will soon appear in the Astrakhan region, is able to become a new corridor for the delivery of goods to Russia from the countries of Central Asia. This was announced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the Astrakhan Region Ilya Volynsky in an interview with the “Astrakhan 24” TV channel.
“For the first time, the proposal to create a transport and logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Astrakhan port special economic zone was made by our governor at a meeting with the President of Turkmenistan in 2021. This idea received wide support from our partners, the effectiveness of this project was evaluated”, - Volynsky's words were reported by “ABN-Astrakhan”.
He also added that on this occasion, a delegation of representatives of the Agency for Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan visited the region in August last year. And in December 2022, at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission, it was decided to accelerate the implementation of the project.
According to the Astrakhan Ministry of Industry, in the future, the prospects for a logistics hub are aimed at Asian countries. Not only Turkmenistan, but also Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan need a logistics center.
An excellent entry point to Russia through the ports of Astrakhan is the port of Turkmenbashi. Turkmenistan could become a transit country for Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Chinese goods, added Volynsky.
