UNFPA and UNDP in Ashgabat held the workshop themed “Learning Experience of Creating a National Response System to Violence Against Women".
The event was held as a part of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign” and was devoted to the International Human Rights Day.
The participants among whom were the representatives from the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh, the judiciary system, Ministry of Justice, the law enforcement agencies, Institute of State, Law and Democracy, the Office of Ombudsperson, various ministries and agencies and public associations “Keyik Okara” and “Yenme” discussed the progress the country has made in assessing its capacity, development of standards operating procedures for health, policy and social sectors, and piloting essential specialized services for women who experienced violence.
The participants were also able to learn the regional experience on strengthening the multi-sectoral response to gender based violence.
The goal of the workshop was to further strengthen and institutionalize a multisectoral response system based on the provision of the coordinated social support to survivors of gender-based violence, including health, social structures and law enforcement agencies across the country.
Head of the International Relations Department of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy in Turkmenistan, Shemshat Atajanova noted in her presentation that the work done in Turkmenistan in this field is in line with the National Action Plan on Gender Equality, which includes the strengthening of the system of multisectoral response to gender-based violence against women.
The Senior advisor of the Ombudsperson`s Office, Mahtumkuli Hojamyradov, devoted his presentation shared the experience and plans of Ombudsperson`s Office on the protection of women and girls from gender-based violence.
International expert from UNDP office in Uzbekistan made a comprehensive presentation sharing experience of Uzbekistan in the process of establishing the national response system to violence against women.
