A “round table” on the presentation of the next phase of the joint WHO and European Union project to combat the consequences of the pandemic was held

On November 2, in the capital of Turkmenistan, in the UN building, an event in the format of a “round table” was held on the occasion of the presentation of the PHASE II of the joint project of the World Health Organization and the European Union for the countries of Central Asia on response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The meeting was attended by WHO Representative in Turkmenistan Yegor Zaitsev, European Union Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso, as well as members of the delegation of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, representatives of the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.

During the event, participants were familiarized with the main priority areas of PHASE II of the joint project of the World Health Organization and the European Union for the countries of Central Asia to counter the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and with the most important issues of digital health within the framework of this project. Also discussed issues were such as the action plan for the implementation of the provisions of the WHO project for this and next years and the adoption and demand for a vaccine against COVID-19.

The goal of the WHO and European Union project for the countries of Central Asia on response to the COVID-19 crisis is to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, strengthen the immunization of the population and digitalization of the industry and increase the coverage of health services. A four-year project worth 10 million euros is also being implemented in the territories of other Central Asian countries. It includes measures to scale up COVID-19 vaccination, plan for routine COVID-19 vaccination, train health workers and professionals, and improve data and digital health systems.
