OSCE Secretary General plans to meet with President of Turkmenistan

Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Maria Schmid plans to meet with the President of Turkmenistan to discuss cooperation. This is reported in her congratulatory message on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan, addressed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

“The OSCE is ready to continue to strengthen peace, stability and closer cooperation in Central Asia and the OSCE region. It would be an honor for me to meet with you in Vienna or Ashgabat to further discuss our cooperation”, - Schmid said in a letter, the text of which was published today in the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

Helga Maria Schmid noted that this year “marks the 30th anniversary of strong and mutually beneficial relations between the OSCE and Turkmenistan”.

“I am sure that we will continue to develop our fruitful cooperation”, emphasized the OSCE Secretary General.

Helga Maria Schmid is a German politician and diplomat, the first woman to serve as OSCE Secretary General. She was appointed to this position on December 4, 2020. Prior to her appointment as OSCE Secretary General, she served as Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
