President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to submit the name of the country's first “smart city” to the national discussion – the new administrative center of Ahal velayat, which is being built 30 kilometers southwest of the Turkmen capital. Such a proposal made today by the Head of state at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, having familiarized himself with the progress of construction works at site.
“President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, having addressed the Chairman of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh G.Mammedova, touched upon the topic of choosing a worthy name for the future city, speaking about the expediency of bringing this issue to national discussion,” the State News Agency of Turkmenistan says.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in address to the participants of the meeting, stressed that this new city has great political, economic and social significance for Turkmenistan.
“There are currently few countries in the world that are building and commissioning an entire city. Thus, this indicates the growing economic potential of the Motherland, the good training of our specialists,” the head of Turkmenistan said.
In accordance with his words, the new administrative center will be equipped with digital technologies and intelligent systems. In order to implement the concept of a “smart” city, the technical task “Smart House” has been developed, it is planned to install equipment designed to pay for electricity, gas and water supply through a digital system.
We remind that the start of this large-scale project worth 1.5 billion US dollars was given in April 2019. The construction is carried out in two stages. 2-, 5-, 7- and 9-storey residential buildings designed for 12 thousand 324 families will be built in the new velayat center. The urban infrastructure will also include a complex of social and other facilities: kindergartens, schools and other specialized educational institutions, institutions in the fields of healthcare, culture, trade and services, sports facilities, administrative buildings, etc., as well as transport and communication and engineering systems.
The construction of the first stage of the administrative center of Ahal velayat should be completed in December of this year – by the Day of Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
