The fourth edition of the Red Book is being prepared in Turkmenistan. Scientists are collecting information about the unique species of flora and fauna of the country in order to update the data of the protection book.

The main source of information has been and remains nature reserves, of which there are nine in Turkmenistan. Preparations for winter are in full swing there. In order for animals and birds to spend the winter safely, employees put in order engineering and road communications, renovate nurseries and protected cordons, clean springs and rivers, prepare feed and carry out preventive maintenance of equipment.

“The main task of the reserve is the protection and comprehensive study of various species of animals and plants in the southwestern Kopetdag, where, in particular, the Syunt-Khasardag reserve is located. The difficulty for scientists is that they have to walk in impassable places with their feet in order to fully study the flora and fauna of the protected area”, said Charyyar Tagiyev, director of the scientific department of the Syunt-Khasardag reserve, to the Internet portal Mir24.tv.

Before the onset of cold weather in Syunt-Khasardag, photo-traps are installed in the reserve, triggered by the movement of various animals. Wolves, wild cats, wild boars, leopards and hyenas live here. For ordinary people, the entrance to the reserve is closed, only government inspectors and researchers engaged in research work can get there. By the way, the fourth edition of the Red Book, which is now being worked on, will include many species of flora and fauna of this reserve.
