A delegation from St. Petersburg headed by Governor Alexander Beglov arrived in Ashgabat today. The guests will take part in festive events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence, according to the official website of the St. Petersburg administration.
At the airport of the capital, the Smolny delegation was met by Deputy Foreign Minister Berdyniyaz Myatiev and Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin.
During the visit, Alexander Beglov is expected to meet with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
At the meetings, it is planned to discuss the development of business cooperation, including in the spheres of industry, road construction, medicine, culture, education.
It is reported that during the visit, the delegation will also visit the joint Turkmen-Russian school named after A.S. Pushkin.
According to Beglov, the city on the Neva attaches great importance to cooperation with Turkmenistan. He noted that in recent years, bilateral relations have received good dynamics.
“Trade turnover has grown by 30 percent. Petersburg companies continue to work actively in Turkmenistan. Medical organizations have expanded their ties. Together with our Turkmen partners, we are working on new areas of cooperation,” the governor said.
