UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Christine Weigand and Ombudsman for Human Rights in Turkmenistan Yazdursun Gurbannazarova made a joint study visit to the Health Educational and Educational Complex of Ahal velayat.
Here they got acquainted with the conditions created for children with disabilities, the implementation and performance of children's rights in Turkmenistan.
The visit was carried out as part of the Work Plan for 2021 between UNICEF in Turkmenistan and the Ombudsman's Office and the preparation of an alternative report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the support provided to children with disabilities, as well as the difficulties in providing services to children with disabilities.
Since the Complex is fully equipped for the training and rehabilitation of children with disabilities, taking into account various categories, the Ombudsman and the UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan got acquainted with the implementation of educational programs for each group of children with disabilities, lessons taught by educators for children in different groups, rehabilitation opportunities and treatment.
In a new five-year program of UNICEF cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and other partners, early intervention and rehabilitation remains a priority.
UNICEF has supported the work of the Ombudsman's Office since its inception, gradually expanding cooperation and focusing on the rights of the child, according to a UNICEF press release.
