UNDP and Government of Turkmenistan expand cooperation in economy and banking sectors

Ashgabat, 8 December 2020: Today, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and representatives of several national ministries and agencies launched new projects which are initiated in the framework of the new programme cycle for 2021-2025 in the area of economic diversification, governance and inclusive growth. These includes:

  • Phase 2 of the Project on “Partnering for SDG acceleration” between UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan
  • “Strengthening the institutional, statistical and information-technical capacity of the State Statistics Committee” between UNDP and the State Statistics Committee
  • “Strengthening resilience to violent extremism in Asia (STRIVE Asia) for 2021-2022” between UNDP and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Turkmenistan

Furthermore, the Government of Turkmenistan and UNDP signed extension of the ongoing programme activities, to ensure smooth completion and achievement of the results set forth in the cooperation programme. Namely:

  • “Supporting business and digital transformation in banking” between UNDP and the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs
  • Phase 1 of the Project on “Partnering for SDG acceleration”
  • “Strengthening institutional and statistical capacity on national accounts” between UNDP and the State Statistics Committee

UNDP’s “Governance, economic diversification and inclusive growth” programme has a very diverse portfolio which ranges from human rights awareness, to public administration reform, strengthening statistical capacity and reforming the social and economic structures of the economy of Turkmenistan.
