The Asian Football Confederation has received Qatar's bid to host the Asian Cup in 2027, according to the official website of the organization.
According to the official website of the AFC, the Qatar football Association submitted an official application through the country's Ambassador to Malaysia, Fahd bin Mohammed Kafud.
Saudi Arabia, Iran, India and Uzbekistan also qualify for the tournament. The host of the competition will be announced in 2021.
Qatar, whose national team won the Asian Cup for the first time in 2019, has held similar tournaments twice — in 1988 and 2011.
The last Asian championship in the UAE in 2019 marked a major shift in football in Asia. At that time, 24 national teams took part in the competition.
Qatar will host the world Cup in 2022.
