Today, Turkmenistan, together with the world community, is celebrating the world environment day, the motto of which this year is "time of nature". On this occasion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed his compatriots with a welcome message, which, in particular, reads:
"I congratulate you on world environment day! Nature is the source of life, and our ancestors learned to live in harmony with it. Over the centuries, this attitude to nature has been fixed in the traditions and customs of our people. Today, this legacy, combined with measures to solve global problems of humanity, is filled with new content.
The key goal of the state environmental policy is to ensure a favorable environment for the lives of our citizens, to use natural resources efficiently, to enrich and preserve nature for future generations, and to establish fruitful regional and international cooperation in this area.
Each implemented state program is aimed at further improving the social and living conditions of Turkmen citizens, ensuring the dynamic development of all sectors of the economy, and creating environmentally friendly industries.
At present, systematic activities are being carried out at the state level to ensure environmental well-being and to comprehensively address the tasks outlined in the national strategy of Turkmenistan on climate change and the National forest program. Effective work continues to improve the legal framework in the field of environmental protection.
The internal and foreign policy of the independent Turkmen state in the field of environmental protection is focused on universal interests, one of the most important directions of which is to contribute to international efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
By joining dozens of United Nations conventions on environmental protection, our country has thoroughly approached the challenges facing the world community in implementing the SDG. In this context, we cooperate with the development Program and the environment Program, the Food and agriculture organization of the United Nations, the world environmental Fund, The international Fund for saving the Aral sea, the Regional environmental center of Central Asia, the German Society for international cooperation and many other international and regional organizations, and make new proposals to ensure environmental well-being.
At the meetings of the UN General Assembly and other large-scale high-level forums on sustainable development, Turkmenistan has put forward initiatives to protect the environment, make rational use of water and energy resources and ensure food security, reduce the risks of natural disasters, and set out new approaches to comprehensively address environmental issues in the Aral sea region and preserve environmental well-being in the Caspian Sea. The successful implementation of the sustainable development Goals adopted by the UN member States in our country demonstrates the practical implementation of these proposals that are relevant to the region and the world.
The adoption by the UN of a new international Agreement on climate change, the resolution "Cooperation between The United Nations and The international Fund for saving the Aral sea", as well as a number of agreements with the heads of the Caspian States – evidence of broad support in the world for the initiatives of independent Turkmenistan," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his Address to the Turkmen people.
