The heads of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan agreed to expand cooperation in the fight against the pandemic

Today, during a telephone conversation initiated by the Uzbek side, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the current situation and prospects for strengthening bilateral relations based on the principles of friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership, the Turkmen foreign Ministry reports.

The two heads of state exchanged views on the epidemiological situation in the region and in the world in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection and agreed to expand cooperation in the fight against the pandemic. In particular, the Turkmen leader stressed the need to intensify efforts to counter the spread of this dangerous infection in order to minimize its harmful impact on bilateral trade and economic ties.

In particular, we are talking about the implementation of coordinated sanitary and quarantine measures on the border between the two countries. The measures taken by joint efforts make it possible to ensure a high level of sanitary and epidemiological security, create conditions for medical testing of citizens crossing the border, and decontaminate transport and cargo traveling through the territories of the two States.

At present, the work of the “Farap-Alyat” checkpoint is well established. Turkmenistan, for its part, has built a disinfection terminal, and similar work is also being carried out on the Uzbek side. As it was stressed, our country is ready to continue this work in close cooperation with our Uzbek partners.

Touching upon the humanitarian aspect of inter-state cooperation serve the fundamental interests of the two brotherly peoples, anciently connected by ties of unbreakable friendship and good neighborly relations, the Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to the Uzbek authorities for their kindness and sympathy for the fate of which is now in Uzbekistan Turkmen citizens, in particular students, for which all the necessary conditions for life and study. The Turkmen side also makes every effort to create favorable conditions for Uzbek citizens staying in Turkmenistan.

Noting that such invaluable qualities inherent in our peoples as fraternal mutual assistance and readiness to help each other are manifested with special force today, in this difficult period, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov assured that in the future Uzbekistan can count on all possible support and assistance from Turkmenistan.

Confirming the mutual desire to give new impetus to the interstate dialogue, the parties expressed confidence in the inviolability of traditionally friendly relations and the successful continuation of the established constructive partnership. In particular, the level of interaction in such key areas as trade, energy, transport and transit, industry and agriculture was considered.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the heads of the two friendly States exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war and addressed wishes of good health, happiness and longevity to WWII veterans.

Also, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev exchanged congratulations and good wishes to each other and the peoples of the two countries on the occasion of the Holy month of “Oraza” for Muslims, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
