Within the framework of the joint project "Strengthening the trade potential of Turkmenistan", implemented by the United Nations development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of trade and foreign economic relations of Turkmenistan, the visit of an international expert, Mr. Ahim Seiler, was prepared and carried out. The purpose of this visit is to study the functions of each trade institution, including the Ministry of trade and foreign economic relations, the State commodity exchange of Turkmenistan, the chamber of Commerce and industry of Turkmenistan, the Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, and assess the needs for training professional personnel to build capacity in the field of trade policy development.

"Based on the needs of national partners to improve their professional capacity, a training on the development of international trade policy will be organized in order to start strengthening the country's trade potential. This is a very important component of our project, as it will begin the whole process of trade reform with the use of local capacity and focus on national priorities", - said Muhammed Homaev, Manager of the UNDP project.

The project "Strengthening the trade potential of Turkmenistan", aimed at stimulating export diversification, increasing the share of products with higher added value in the export structure and reducing the dependence of the national economy on imports. It also supports the development and implementation of measures aimed at ensuring effective access of Turkmen export products to foreign markets, including the introduction of new economic mechanisms for an integrated system of distribution of goods from the producer to the final consumer.

During the mission of the international expert, the partners also discussed target markets and products for export.

It is expected that the five-day training will be developed and implemented for at least 30 national experts in the early spring of 2020, the UN press service in Turkmenistan reports.
