The Mejlis of Turkmenistan awarded President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the title of "Honorary elder of the people". The speaker of the national Parliament Gulshat Mammadova read the relevant Resolution of the legislature during the meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council).
The title of "Honorary elder of the people" has the head of Turkmenistan's enormous personal contribution to the strengthening of the independence and permanent neutrality of the country, outstanding service to the state and society, large-scale fruitful work on forming the unshakable pillars of statehood by the bright and thoughtful justification of the principles of the new time, the implementation of positive reforms, for exemplary creative, conscientious and selfless work for the good of the Motherland, and given the numerous requests and proposals received from NGOs and our citizens, working in various industries, and in connection with the celebration of the 28th anniversary of independence.
The head of state was dressed in traditional Turkmen don and white telpek in a solemn atmosphere to the applause of the forum participants. The Turkmen leader was also awarded the appropriate badge.
Addressing the audience, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that conferring the title of "Honorary elder of the people" imposes even greater responsibility on him. The Turkmen leader also said that he would continue to spare no effort, knowledge and experience in the name of prosperity of the Fatherland, ensuring a peaceful and happy life of Turkmen citizens.
