The Mayor of Herat province of Afghanistan Abdul Quayom Rahimi, who has arrived in Turkmenistan on a short-term visit, gave a short interview to Turkmenportal. The conversation took place after the excursion at the Main Museum of Turkmenistan.
-Please, tell briefly about the goals of your visit to Turkmenistan?
- My visit to Ashgabat and Mary are strengthening relations of two countries, especially Mary province and Herat province. Thousands of years relations of Mary and Herat we can see in history. Two Presidents of Turkmenistan and of Afghanistan trying to renew relations of two countries. Developing trade between the two countries.
- What do you think about the prospects of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan relations? What can people expect in the economy in nearly future?
- We have many ways of strengthening our relations. First is that Afghanistan buying oil for many years from Turkmenistan. We are buying for billion dollars oil from Turkmenistan. Now it is getting to a new era in the TAPI project, which is two countries working hard to get it connected. TAPI is an energy line from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, to Pakistan and to India.
- What could you say about sustainability and security in Afghanistan?
- Well, we are going through very bad worlds in the last forty years. We are fighting twenty terrorist groups from around the world in Afghanistan. Somehow, we are defending the Turkmenistan spread of terrorism. We are committed to Turkmenistan’s border security from the Afghanistan side. We will have an operation to clear up from terrorism on the border of Turkmenistan. On the way we are building TAPI, there will be a huge operation to clear up from terrorism.
- How do you like Ashgabat?
- It is beautiful.
