Nigel Richards, 57, a native of New Zealand, has become the world champion in the game of Scrabble in Spanish, despite having no knowledge of the language. Earlier, in 2015, Richards had already conquered the summit in a similar competition in French, also without knowing it. This was reported by Mail.ru with reference to Oddity Central.

The name of Nigel Richards is well known in Scrabble circles. He is even called the «Tiger Woods of Scrabble» for his outstanding achievements. In 2015, he stunned the world by defeating the best French-speaking players without speaking French. Many considered this victory a fluke, but Richards once again proved his exceptional skill by winning the World Spanish Scrabble Championship.

Scrabble is a popular board game in which players compete to form words from letters. Experts suggest that to achieve this result, Richards memorized about one hundred thousand Spanish words without delving into their meanings.

John Baird, secretary of the Scrabble club in New Zealand, where Richards began his playing career, notes the man’s unique abilities. According to him, Richards has a phenomenal memory: he can memorize entire pages of text as if they were photographs. In addition, he has an incredible ability to combine letters and see potential words.
