Today in the Brest Fortress there was a large-scale reconstruction of the first battles of the Great Patriotic War and the defense of the citadel. 500 reenactors from Belarus, Russia and other countries recreated the events of June 22, 1941, MIR24 reports.
This year the reconstruction program has become even more ambitious. The script was expanded and supplemented with new episodes, such as the pincer assault, the reading of order number one to the fortress garrison and an attempt to remove women and children from the citadel.
The images of soldiers and civilians who participated in the reconstruction were carefully thought out and corresponded as closely as possible to historical prototypes. Participants used authentic weapons and equipment, as well as elements of fortifications of that time.
Spectators, who were especially numerous this year, followed the progress of the reconstruction with bated breath. Realistic scenery, pyrotechnic effects and well-coordinated performances by the reenactors created an atmosphere of complete immersion in the events of those tragic days.
